The social network implements German voice functions for AI-supported augmented reality glasses and strengthens its strategic partnership with EssilorLuxottica.
Meta is expanding the language support of its Ray-Ban Meta glasses to include German functionalities. The integrated Meta AI assistant now enables German-language information queries, photo and video recording, call and messaging functions as well as media control completely hands-free. Previously, language support was limited to English, French, Italian and Spanish. The language configuration is carried out via the Meta AI app under Device settings > Meta AI > Language and voice. It is activated by the voice command "Hey Meta". This extension addresses the most requested feature by German-speaking users since the German launch at the end of April.
The Oakley Meta HSTN for sportspeople and athletes presented in June also benefits from German language integration. The sports model differentiates itself with double the battery life and 3K video recording compared to full HD in Ray-Ban Meta variants. The Limited Edition has been available for pre-order since July 11 for 549 euros, while the main collection will be available from summer in six frame and lens combinations from 439 euros. Despite the sports orientation, the splash protection remains IPX4 standard.
Meta is consolidating its smart glasses strategy by acquiring a 3.5 billion dollar (approx. 3 billion euros) stake in EssilorLuxottica. This three percent stake in the world's largest eyewear manufacturer secures long-term partnerships with premium brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley and Persol. The partnership agreement signed in 2024 extends the collaboration into the 2030s and enables the development of further smart glasses models in cooperation with Oakley and Prada.
Reports indicate Meta's fall plans for smart glasses with an integrated heads-up display. This next generation focuses on basic applications: Camera and navigation functions as well as smartphone notification display. Systematic market development through voice localization combined with strategic hardware partnerships positions Meta competitively in the emerging wearable computing segment and establishes foundations for broader augmented reality implementations.
