"We are looking for profiles from the fields of business administration, STEM and ESG, as well as auditors and tax consultants," explains Vera Elter, Head of HR at KPMG Germany.

The application process is streamlined: two clicks, upload your CV, done. Cover letters or photos are optional. Those who make it through the first step are invited to one or two interviews, which can range from situational questions to case studies. For career starters in particular, the focus is on personality, potential and willingness to learn.

Career paths: From Associate to Partner

At KPMG, employees progress through five career stages - from Associate to Assistant Manager to Partner. Promotion is possible every two to three years, but depends on clear proof of performance. "From management level upwards, business cases are crucial," says Elter. Employees have to show how they can open up market segments and build networks.

A special feature: up to management level, employees should have worked at least once in an area that is not part of their specialist area in order to be more broadly positioned.

Salary and benefits at KPMG

Starting salaries for graduates are between 45,000 and just under 50,000 euros. Those with additional qualifications such as a Master's degree or who have already completed an internship at KPMG can expect an even higher salary. There are also bonuses up to manager level, which consist of a fixed bonus (four percent of the basic salary) and a performance-related flexible bonus.

Experienced consultants benefit from additional benefits such as sports programs, leased bicycles and individual coaching offers. Support with further training and professional exams is also a key benefit.

Workload: between flexibility and intensity

Consultants at KPMG often experience work-intensive phases, especially during ongoing projects. "Some weeks it feels like I'm writing a six-hour exam every day," reports one employee. On average, working hours are around ten hours a day, although weekend work is rare.

Flexibility plays a key role: employees can accumulate overtime in time accounts and have it paid out or compensated later. This ensures a better balance between work and rest.
